DRIVE MY CAREER LAUNCHES NEW SCHEME AND APPOINTS FIRST AMBASSADOR
– “Ambassador Scheme” launched by NFDA’s Drive My Career
– Samantha Anscombe, Sytner’s Parts Advisor, becomes first Ambassador
– The scheme will give exposure to the success of colleagues working in automotive and inspire more people to start a career in the sector
Drive My Career (DMC), NFDA’s employment initiative, promotes automotive retail as a great place to work and helps young candidates to connect with employers in the UK.
A number of young colleagues working in the automotive sector across various business areas have played a key role in inspiring others to join the industry. As a result of this and to further enhance the exposure the success stories that those working in automotive deserve, Drive My Career has launched a new “Ambassador Scheme”.
Samantha Anscombe, Sytner’s Parts Advisor and one of the winners at the Autocar’s Great Women Rising Stars awards has become the first Drive My Career Ambassador. After virtually handing over her award, Sue Robinson, NFDA Chief Executive, will also act as a mentor for Samantha going forward.
Samantha started as an apprentice with Sytner in 2017 and won Mercedes-Benz’s apprentice of the year in 2020. She has just started a university degree course in psychology and counselling.
Young people who have previously collaborated with Drive My Career and their line managers or HR colleagues will be approached over the coming weeks to join as Ambassadors.
Under the new Scheme, Drive My Career will be regularly in contact with its Ambassadors to receive feedback for dealer members’ recruitment strategies and its own activities. Additionally, Ambassadors will be offered a number of opportunities including:
– Featured success stories, videos and interviews published on Drive My Career’s website and social media channels
– Direct involvement in designing and supporting campaigns such as the “DMC Apprentice Takeover”, “Driving Inclusivity in Automotive” events and the recently launched series of Supercharge Me” sessions
– Participating in meetings to help set the direction of Drive My Career
– Attending trade and exhibition shows
– Media interviews
DMC runs campaigns to highlight the positive aspects of a career in automotive to inspire young people outside the industry and help them find a career that suits them. Also, the campaigns and events held by DMC promote diversity and inclusion in automotive and support those working in automotive retail.
Commenting on the launch of the scheme, Sue Robinson, NFDA Chief Executive, said: “Our success stories have been instrumental in promoting the automotive industry to young people and we look forward to developing our new Ambassador Scheme to give further exposure to our colleagues’ inspiring careers. A huge welcome to Samantha as our first Ambassador and thanks to Sytner for their continued support”.
Drive My Career’s first Ambassador, Samantha Anscombe, Sytner’s Parts Advisor, added: “I am beyond grateful for the opportunity Drive My Career has offered me. Being an Ambassador of something I am so passionate about is very exciting, I cannot wait to learn more about how the other side of this industry works and I look forward to starting to collaborate with the team”.
